Using Perl as a scripting language?

What are the advantages of using Perl as a scripting language compared to PHP?

Using Perl as a scripting language?
Perl is more universal, so you can use it for a lot more than just writing CGI scripts or php-like snippets for dynamic includes in static pages.

Perl will let you connect to a number of different databases at the same time. I understand this is limited in PHP.

You can write entire pages and sites in Perl using a database for user configuration.

Perl has been around for a long time and has a large user base and active community.
Reply:Have a read of http://www.tnx.nl/php

Perl also has the CPAN ( http://search.cpan.org ) which is an excellent repository of useful code. PHP doesn't have anything as good.
